Canadian Federal Budget 2016

March 22nd, 2016 marked the release of the 2016 Canadian Federal Budget. This budget has been highly anticipated as it will give Canadians a view of how the Trudeau Government will work.

The environment and climate change was an important promise mentioned during the 2015 election, where the Liberal's moved from under dog to a sweeping majority. Finance Minister Bill Morneau sees the budget as a tool for change, saying “To shape the future we must invest in the future” in his maiden budget speech.

An important aspect is their promise to invest in discovery research which will help Canada to become a frontier in green technology. They will invest $2 billion over three years to campuses to fund research, this will help make campuses cleaner today.

To summarize Chapter 4: A Clean Growth Economy- this is an an immediate investment that can make a difference now, for future success.

In Canada we are blessed to have so many beautiful, open, and green space from Cape Breton to Gwaii Haanas, from Kluane to Point Pelee, for Canada;s 150th anniversary in 2017, they will invest in them as our gift to ourselves and the world. This will help grow the eco-system by protecting a safe haven for plants and animals to grow and thrive.

The budget promises to provide $3.4 billion over five years, to address climate change and air pollution, protect ecologically sensitive areas and restore public trust in the environmental assessment process. This gives organizations an opportunity to implement strategies that they have been working tirelessly on.

This budget will be an essential innovation to a low carbon economy, that is vital in today's world. This budget will help Canada lean off of fossil fuels, that do no good.

With the rise in electric cars, the government needs to step in to support charging stations, an incentive to all electric car drivers. The budget mentions this and we hope to see these stations coming in the near future.

In the words of The Honourable Minister Morneau "We have a special responsibility to steward natures many gifts." and I believe the budget does just that.
